Product Care and Use

All of our wooden products are designed to last multiple lifetimes if they are cared for properly.

The key to longevity is proper care, which includes proper storage, proper re-application of Traeskal Board and Bowl Wax and proper cleaning techniques.

Storage-  Our products should be stored in a safe place such as a cabinet, or a display table.  They should not be placed in direct sunlight or stored where they may sit in a puddle of water such as on a kitchen counter.  If your cutting board is kept on the counter make sure it is resting on the rubber feet not on its side or top.  Wood loves water, even with a protected wax coating if it sits in water for to long a period of time it will absorb it, which in turn affects the stability and integrity of the product.  Heat such as may be had from direct sunlight or being left to close to the stovetop can also have negative effects on wooden products.

Proper application of Traeskal Board and Bowl Wax-  Our paste wax oil/wax mixture is designed to absorb and be rubbed into the pores of the wood to seal and create a watertight barrier.  This finish is a natural product, and our items are intended to be used and handled often, because of this it is necessary to re-apply wax as needed to keep your item functioning as they should and to help protect the product from ware.

1. Use a linen cloth, strong paper towel or your fingers to apply the wax liberally to your wooden item.

2. Rub the wax in alternating directions to help force it into the open pores of the wood.

3. Once whole item has been covered in wax, let it sit for about 20-30 minutes.  This helps the oils to soak deeper into the wood.

4. Use another clean linen clothe or strong paper towel to buff off any excess wax.  You should no longer see any streaks or oily spots.

5. Let Item sit overnight/ minimum of 8 hours before being used again.  Longer is better to help oil and wax dry more.  Different climates will effect this process.  If you are in a very humid climate, the drying process may take longer, than if you live in a dry climate.  After a few uses you will learn what time works best for your area.

6. Re-apply whenever your item is looking dry or scratched, a cutting board may need new application every couple of weeks if used daily, whereas a baby rattle or peppermill may only need re-application once or twice a year.

NEVER put items in the dishwasher!!!! Will Destroy Item!!!!

DO NOT submerge items in water!!!!  Will weaken/possibly destroy item!!!!

DO NOT leave Items outside!!!!  Sunlight, weather, moisture, and temperature changes can have negative effects on wooden items.  This is not a problem if out while having a meal/party, but do not store outdoors!!!!

To clean-  I like to use the fresh soapy dishwater before I clean my other pots and pans to wipe down my cutting board or other wooden kitchen items.  You may use a fairly wet dishtowel to clean the board, but do not submerge your items in the water.  After you have scrubbed the items clean with soapy water rinse them off under the facet  and dry them off immediately.  Put your wooden items back in their designated storage or display area until next use.  If your item is in need of re-application of Traeskal Board and Bowl Wax, make sure that the item has been cleaned and is also dry after the cleaning before you apply the fresh coat of wax.
